The Gilded Tongue — Words Can Sound Good, but They Can Lead You Away From Truth.
Location: Chapter 9 — The Tower of Whispers
In my book The Sword of Truth, not all beasts fight with weapons. Some don’t even pick up a sword. Some are talkers who speak lies.
Who Is The Gilded Tongue?
The Gilded Tongue isn’t loud or aggressive. This beast doesn’t threaten. It doesn’t demand, it speaks well, really well. Its words are smooth, calm, and convincing. It knows exactly what to say and when to say it. It listens carefully, then responds in a way that feels right and sounds good—conforting, reasonable, and even wise. But something underneath feels no quite right. It is not obvious at first.
What does this beast represent?
The Gilded Tongue represents a real issue:
- Eloquence without truth
- Manipulation dressed as wisdom
- Teaching that sounds right but leads you down a wrong path.
It shows how easy it is to be fooled by words that sound good, even when they’re not based on truth, truth can be twisted. Not all lies sound bad and the liar can look the part. Sometimes it sounds smart. Sometimes it sounds kind. Sometimes it even sounds spiritual.
Why this is dangerous?
This is what makes The Gilded Tongue in my story different. It doesn’t attack your strength. It attacks your thinking. It slowly changes your understanding until lies start to sound right. It teaches without obedience to the authority of the gospel and Jesus. In my story it speak without truth. Leads without accountability. And the more you listen, the harder it becomes to tell the difference.
A warning from the Bible
This isn’t just part of the story. It reflects something real.
“Such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of the naive.”
— Romans 16:18
That’s exactly what The Gilded Tongue does. It doesn’t serve truth. It does not serve Jesus. It serves itself.
The Counter: The Sword of Truth
In the story, this is where the contrast becomes clear. The Sword of Truth, the Kings word made physical helps us understand what truth is and how to live it. It doesn’t twist things. It doesn’t change itself to make people comfortable. It cuts deep. It exposes what’s really there. And that’s why it’s needed. Because when words are used to deceive, truth must be used to reveal. This is were we must start, we must recover truth so we can know how to live out the Christian life and bare fruit.
A Final Thought
Not everything that sounds good is good. Not every confident voice speaks truth. The Gilded Tongue reminds us of something simple but important:
Truth, Gods, should renew our minds guid us and change is, but if words are pulling you away from the King, no matter how smooth they are…They’re not worth following.
