Grace, Faith, and Love: The Journey of Recovering Truth
In my book, The Sword of Truth: An Allegory About Recovering Truth, Albert and Charles set out on a journey that shows a deeper spiritual reality. Their quest to recover truth reflects the very journey every Christian experiences. As we walk through life, we come across dangers, temptations, setbacks, and moments of self-discovery.
Philippians 3:13–14
“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
The Christian faith starts with grace. We are saved by God’s grace, not by our own efforts or achievements. Grace is God’s unmerited favour, freely given to those who trust in Him. We cannot earn salvation through good works, religious performance, or moral striving. As Paul teaches, salvation is a gift.
Ephesians 2:8-9
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”
Titus 3:5 also shows us:
“He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.”
However, grace is not passive,it is active. The grace that saves also transforms. Paul speaks of “faith working through love.” Genuine faith produces fruit, changing the way we think, act, and relate to others. Good works do not save us, but they are evidence that God’s grace is at work within us.
This is shown in the experiences of Albert and Charles. Their journey is not just about reaching a destination; it is also about becoming different people along the way. Each challenge exposes weaknesses, tests convictions, and offers growth opportunities.
The encounters in my book, such as with the Beast of Plenty. The temptation is not simply physical comfort or abundance but the subtle danger of becoming distracted from the greater prize. Prosperity can lull us into complacency, causing us to lose sight of the path before us.
Also, my book shows a battle with Yamata, a beast who represents the battles we all face against fear, deception, and the forces that seek to move us from truth. These battles show and reveal struggles that no one else sees. Albert and Charles discover that recovering truth requires confronting their own doubts, pride, and misplaced desires.
This shows an important truth about the Christian life: our greatest battles are often not against circumstances but within our own hearts. The journey we are on in life must be lived by faith, which continually calls us to trust God more deeply and to surrender those areas that compete with His truth.
Yet throughout their journey, Albert and Charles keep moving forward, fixing their eyes on the prize ahead. The allegory shows how Paul was encouraging his readers to press on toward the goal, refusing to be defined by past failures or current hardships.
Our works do not save us, but neither are we saved for inactivity. God’s grace calls us to move forward, shaping our character and teaching us to love Him and others more fully. “The Sword of Truth: An Allegory About Recovering Truth” explores this reality through allegory. The quest to recover truth is a picture of the believer’s journey through life. The destination matters, but so does the transformation that occurs along the way. Every trial, temptation, and challenge becomes an opportunity for faith to grow and for love to become more visible.
Hebrews 12:1-2
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him, he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
This is a beautiful Bible passage that shows us, faith keeps us in the race, grace leading us onwards, and love reveals God’s true work within us. By faith, we fix our eyes on Jesus; by faith, we live!
