I have spent considerable time thinking through how my books can connect.
How can we live by Christian virtues such as:
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23
We live in an age that values self-truth, my truth, over the fullness of truth found in Jesus the King.
So why write? Why bother when no one cares for truth? Why bother writing allegory? Why start with the Sword of Truth: An Allegory About Recovering Truth? This blog aims to answer these questions. They are questions I ask myself all the time.
Allegory has a wonderful way of conveying truth in story form. Many other writers have chosen allegory as a means to speak truth into the world; my books are written from my own creation of the world within them, and they are based on the Bible and my own experiences in life.
The Sword of Truth: An Allegory About Recovering Truth
My book is about a journey to recover something lost: truth. In the book, the world is crumbling, and many have exchanged the truth for a lie:
"Because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen." Romans 1:25
This book is a story about recovering the truth of the world it is set in so, people know how to live by the King's virtues. Albert and Charles are faithful servants of the King, who have been sent. As they journey through the King's land, they encounter opponents of truth; they encounter beasts that embody lies, and they must stand firm in faith, trusting the one who sent them. They are working together; Albert is the leader, and Charles follows. Their relationship shows discipleship in practice; it also shows that even leaders fall. It is also a picture of leaders passing the baton, as it were, building up the new generation of leaders, teaching them and showing leadership in action even in flawed people.
So this first book of mine is a journey and struggle. Life is a journey we must walk by faith in the one who gave us faith in the first place. We grow in faith as it grows, and we are formed as we journey through life. So, The Sword of Truth is the prologue of a bigger series or journey.
Love Restored will be released soon. As we hope in faith for heaven, we must hold firm to God's promises and live by faith:
"For we walk by faith, not by sight." 2 Corinthians 5:7
One fruit or virtue of the Spirit is love, and this will be where the first allegorical fantasy focuses. The King teaches us how to live and be formed so that we can bear fruit. A tree that does not bear fruit is no good.
So, follow the journey and see where it leads.
