The Unseen War: Why We Dress for a Battle We Can’t See.
If you are new to my blog space understand that I often use story like language to convey spiritual truth, after all I am a story teller who speaks in tradition of allegory.
There was a mist over the City of Valon. To the untrained eye, it was just another quiet morning. But if you have travelled this way long enough, you know the greatest dangers are real, and they come when we are not ready. The true enemy doesn’t wear a uniform you can see, nor does he fight with weapons made of metal; he prowls around like a roaring lion.
So often in life, we find ourselves exhausted, bruised, and bloodied from fighting battles. We treat our circumstances, our broken culture, our political bias, or even our family as enemies. We pour our energy into earthly fighting, wondering why victory remains so difficult and why our souls feel so deeply worn down.
But the scriptural reality is far deeper, cosmic, and grounding: “our battle is not against flesh and blood”.
Behind the scenes of our physical world, a fierce, ancient conflict rages. We are caught in the crossfire of an invisible war waged against principalities, powers, and the dark rulers of this present age. The arrows flying at our hearts—arrows of doubt, accusation, fear, lies and distraction—are spiritual. And a spiritual war cannot be won with earthly strategies and earthly armour.
The Inspiration Behind the Armour
This deep truth is what drew me back to the sixth chapter of Ephesians. As an author who loves using allegory to explore truth and deception, I have always been amazed by the clear imagery the Apostle Paul uses. Writing from a Roman prison, most likely chained to a guard, Paul looked at the standard-issue military gear of the ancient world and saw a magnificent blueprint for spiritual survival.
The Armour of God is not a collection of dusty historical artefacts. It is a living, breathing wardrobe provided by the King Himself. It is designed to anchor our minds, guard our hearts, and give us a supernatural foothold when we feel we cannot cope.
Recently, this passage has inspired my writing and shaped how I see the fight between light and darkness. But more than that, it has challenged how I live out my faith daily.
This is the start of a new blog series. I want to invite you to walk with me on the road as we pull back the curtain on this unseen realm.
We are going to unpack the King’s armoury, piece by piece, exploring how to practically "put on" this gear so that we can know how to stand firm in the gift of faith.
We will look at what it truly means to stand firm in a world that has no time for God and in a world of pain, suffering, and trial of many kinds.
The battle lines have been drawn, the Commander has provided the gear, and the march is about to begin.
The armour of God in Ephesians is the virtues of God that we wear in our everyday lives to stand firm in faith, and this faith is God's gift to us.
